Ms. Thomas, Potential Specialist
(thomasm1@lake.k12.fl.us)

Ms. Thomas was born and raised in South Florida. She attended Lake Sumter Community College earning her Associates Degree in Internet Services before enrolling at Saint Leo University. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice. In 2017, she earned a Master’s of Science Degree in Education, focusing on Innovation and Technology and Personalized Learning from Capella University.

Beginning her career at Carver Middle school in 2011 as a substitute teacher, Ms. Thomas later accepted a permanent position as the Literacy Paraprofessional and later served as ESE Clerk then Data Clerk for nearly four years.

Ms. Thomas looks forward to continuing to serve the students of Carver Middle school by pushing students to their full potential. One of her favorite quotes is by Rita Pierson: “Every child deserves a champion: an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power and insists they can become the best they can possibly be.” She also firmly believes Pierson’s motto, “I am somebody. I was somebody when I came. I’ll be a better somebody when I leave. I am powerful, and I am strong. I deserve the education that I get here,” should be heard by students several times a week. Ms. Thomas understands there are many students that may not have support and encouragement at home. Educators at Carver Middle should provide these each day.

In addition to her role as Potential Specialist, Ms. Thomas also oversees all of Carver Middle’s social media accounts and website. She will also be working with a team of fellow educators to start Carver’s first Girl’s Mentoring Group, help with Title 1 Events and Tutoring.
